How we assess evidence
Facts over framing. Process before politics.
Start with the source. Prioritize original documents, official records, full quotations and relevant data. Check dates and context, and link the record so readers can examine it.
Separate facts from interpretation. Identify allegations, analysis and unresolved questions. Repeated reporting of the same claim is not independent confirmation.
Test competing explanations. Consider evidence that challenges a conclusion, explain limitations and avoid certainty the record cannot support.
Use images responsibly. Captions should identify relevant context. Illustrations and generated imagery should not be presented as documentary evidence.
Corrections & updates
Help improve the record. Send correction requests to contact@truthvsnarrative.org with the article URL, the specific statement at issue and a source supporting your correction.
Corrections address factual errors. Updates add new information or developments. A disagreement with an interpretation is welcome, but should identify the evidence or reasoning being challenged.
When a substantive factual correction is made, include a dated note explaining what changed. Minor spelling or formatting fixes may be made without a separate note.
The standard is accountability. Revisit conclusions when stronger evidence emerges and make significant changes clear to readers.
